Hello River Valley, I am Mr. Barnes. This is my first year here at River Valley, I am new to teaching after years of doing education in churches and working with individuals with special needs. I am excited to be here and get to know all of you. I graduated from Green River High School in Green River Wyoming, I have a BA in English from the University of Wyoming and an MA in Educational Leadership from Golden Gate Baptist Seminary. I have lived in Iowa for 10 years with my wife and 3 kids who are currently in 7th, 9th and 11th grade in Sioux City.

Our Focus for this school year will be three simple questions. What's Good? Why Is It Good? What Would Make it Better? In our reading, writing and speaking, we will focus on those three things, making this school year great.

Materials: It is the expectation that you will bring the following to class everyday.

1) Textbook/Chromebook

2) Paper/Folder

3) Pencils/Pens

4) Positive Attitude

Late Work: A late assignment shall be considered work not totally completed at the beginning of the class period of the due date. Assignments turned in after the class meets but on the same day as the assignment is due will be considered late using the following breakdown:

 Every day work is late you wil lose 10% off your earned grade up to five days. After five days late, the best score you can receive will be 50%, if you get the entire assignment correct.

1 day= 10% off corrected score

2 days= 20%

3 days= 30%

4 days= 40%

5 days and beyond= 50%

LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE CURRENT QUARTER IS COMPLETE.

Expected Behaviors:

1) Be in your seat when the bell rings.

2) Bring materials and be prepared.

3) Use appropriate language.

4) Respect others and their property.

5) Speak one at a time.

6) Stay on task.

 Grading Policy:

A = 93-100

‚ÄčA- = 90-92

B+ = 87-89

B = 83-86

B- = 80-82

C+ = 77-79

C = 73-76

C- =70-72

D+ = 67-69

D = 63-66

D- = 60-62

F = 59 and below
