River Valley Students Recognized for their Creativity

Three River Valley Middle School students were recently selected to display their art pieces during Youth Art Month at the Sioux City Art Center. The event is sponsored by Wells Fargo.

Teresa Todd along with Jacob Ebert, both eighth graders, attended the opening reception on February 16  with their parents and Mrs. Harris, River Valley’s Art Instructor. Karlee Shever, a sixth grader, also earned this honor, but she did not get to attend the event.

Teresa Todd received “Honorable Mention” for her paper mache lamb and was called to the front to shake hands with Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott. Sioux City Superintendent Dr. Paul Gausman, Art Center Director Todd Behrens, and Art Center Coordinator Debra Marquee were all present to witness and congratulate students on their achievements.

Jacob Ebert showed off his paper mache goat and clay chicken mug, and Karlee Shever entered a “Green Monster” made out of clay coils.

The work of these young students will be on display from February 15 until April 12. The Sioux City Art Center is open Tues, Wed., Fri, and Sat. 10am to 4pm, Thursday 10am to 9pm, Sun 1-4pm, and is closed on Mondays. Everyone is encouraged to drop by the museum to see just how creative these students are.
