Teacher Spotlight - Mr. Eric Flynn

On the front lines of education is Mr. Eric Flynn.  He likes to celebrate his birthday on September 16th.  Joining him in his family are Jim and Melanie, his dad and mom, Lori and Kayla, his sisters and Air, his wife.  Also included in their family are their 3 cats, Sammy, Rusty and Dusty.

He received his teaching degree at Buena Vista University and he is in his 15th year of teaching Band, Choir and General Music to the 6th-12th grade students.

His favorite thing to do for entertainment is play pinball or video games.

Some of his favorites are:

  • The color green because it's just the best color out there.
  • Hot dogs on rice which has been his favorite since he was a kid.
  • Book-Anything by R.A. Salvatore but mostly his "Drizzt Do'Urden" books.
  • Movie-"Lord of the Rings Trilogy" because they are such amazing movies.
  • Song-"The Kids Aren't Alright" by the Offspring because it relates some days.
  • Sport-Hockey because it is the only sport that has it all.
  • Go Detroit Red Wings!  Which has been his team since middle school.

His greatest thing about teaching is seeing all the progress the students involved in music make from 5th grade through their senior year which is very rewarding.

He shares, "I enjoy teaching at River Valley each year.  Each year is met with new challenges to overcome and my goal is to continue getting better and better each year."

Mr. Flynn, thank you for all that you do!
