Teaching students that they are capable of learning and doing great things is Mrs. Tonya Carstens. She celebrates her birthday on May 15th. Her family consists of her husband, Brian, children, Morgan, Megan, Colin and Justin. They also have two huskies, Cy and Kaybee, Cat, Marlee and old class pet turtle, Jessica to round out their family.
She obtained her teaching degree at the University of South Dakota. She is in her 17th year of teaching at River Valley but 20 plus years in education being a substitute teacher and para. She teaches 4th grade ELA, 4th grade Social Studies and 5th grade Social Studies.
Her favorite thing to do for fun is to read and watch mysteries.
Some of her favorites are:
- The color navy.
- Food is taco pizza.
- Book is "Harry Potter Series."
- Movie is "The Wizard of Oz."
- Sport is basketball.
- Sports team is Iowa State.
Her exceptional thing about teaching is working with kids.
