Teacher Spotlight - Mrs. Rachel Wassenaar

Making sure students have the tools they need to make their dreams a reality is Mrs. Rachel Wassenaar.  She likes to celebrate her birthday on November 11th.  Joining her in her family is her dog, Esteban.  She recently lost her husband, Bryan, after 14 years of marriage.

She acquired her teaching degree at Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa and she is in her 26th year of teaching.  She teaches Physical Science, Principles of Technology, Chemistry, Physics and Advanced Chemistry to the 9th - 12th grade students.

Her favorite thing to do for enjoyment is to go out to eat.

Some of her favorites are:

  • The color black because it's slimming.
  • Food is lobster because it's sweet and salty with butter.
  • Book is "The Bible" because she needs to know Jesus.
  • Movie is "Stargate" because it spawned her favorite TV show.
  • She has too many favorite songs to name just one.  She is a music lover of all kinds.
  • Team is River Valley Wolverines.

Her special thing about teaching is building relationships with students.

Mrs. Wassenaar, thank you for all that you do!
