RV Elementary is going to celebrate spring's arrival as well as our upcoming spring/Easter break in style. First, we have some awesome dress-up days planned to make school even more fun. We also have some engaging activities that our friends from the high school will help us with. Even though it is a short week, it's a week packed full of excitement!

Yesterday the FFA Chapter had the privilege of attending the Biotechnology Tour in Sioux County. They toured Dykstra Dairy which is a 3,000-cow, family owned and run dairy operation. They also got to see first hand the Purdue Premium Meat facility. 4,400 to 4,700 hogs are harvested here daily in the state of the art plant. Corteva was the next stop on the tour. This facility in Orange City is one of over 50 research seed centers in Canada and U.S. Below is a photo of a robot dog and different drones and equipment that are used within their company. The last stop of the day was Trans Ova Genetics. They are a world-wide leader in bovine (cattle) embryo transfer services. It was a full and educational day showing members all the various types of ag related professions we have just an hour away from home.

The Spring Play is coming up on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th at 7 pm. While the cast is busy practicing and preparing there are a few items they would love to borrow from you and use as props. Are you able to help us out?! RV Elementary got March started off right yesterday! We held our March Lift-off in the gym with lots of important things to talk about including our March KDT Word of the Month-Confidence. The 5th grade band also gave us a great rendition of "Go Big Red"!
Of course we also celebrated our March birthdays and KDT drawing winners:). Lot's of excitement to start the month of March!

RV Elementary is celebrating Read Across America/Dr. Seuss Week this week. Students will be doing some DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time throughout the week. This Wednesday, the elementary will be celebrating it with a fun dress up day and a few cool activities for all the students. We will have Big/Little Buddy read aloud time and our KDT groups will be listening to some Dr. Seuss books. It should be fun!

River Valley MS/HS will start ISASP testing on March 19 and will finish on March 22. ISASP (Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress) tests help River Valley see where our students are performing and how we can better teach to meet our students needs. Please see the attached schedule and information for these testing dates.
Some things to consider to help your child do the best they can on these tests:
Have your child come to school having eaten a good breakfast or plan on them grabbing a breakfast here!
Make sure that your child has had plenty of sleep the night before these tests!
Practice! ISASP has made it possible for students to take practice tests anytime with this link: https://iowa.pearsonaccess.com/test-prep/reading/

Check out these awesome posters from the Advanced Chemistry Class showing the different ways to define acids and bases!

In honor of Dr Seuss birthday tomorrow, the lunch ladies dressed up and decorated the lunchroom today. Breakfast was also served at lunch.

Students who participated in District Individual Speech Contest on Saturday are pictured below. Some students are in two events. They brought home (9) I ratings and (3) II ratings. The I ratings advance to State Contest on March 9th in Carroll. Speech Coach is Mr. Ryan Brown. Good job everyone and good luck at state!

Today is Bus Driver Appreciation Day and we are super appreciative of our bus drivers. Those drivers that could make it in were treated to some coffee, orange juice, and a donut. It was just a little something to show how thankful we are. Thanks again for doing what you do for the students at RV Community Schools.
